NEW JERSEY — The coronavirus pandemic continues to plague New Jersey and its Motor Vehicle Commission facilities now that 11 are currently closed, the MVC revealed on Tuesday.

All of the MVC sites had to close because an employee tested positive for COVID-19 at each location. North Bergen Licensing Center and East Orange Vehicle Center are the latest to close, the MVC announced Monday.

The number of closures has doubled in just two weeks. On Feb. 26th, only five sites were closed and state officials were celebrating the fact that COVID was largely under control at the MVC facilities. The long lines that dominated these sites following the MVC's reopening in the summer have also largely disappeared.

North Bergen will be closed until March 22. The employee who tested positive was last in the agency this past Saturday. East Orange will be closed until March 23. The employee who tested positive was last in the agency on Monday.

All of the MVC Centers will reopen after full COVID-19 cleaning and the completion of staff quarantine. Here is when the MVC centers are scheduled to reopen:

Appointments are scheduled up to 60 days in advance.

Appointment Cancellations

Any appointments canceled due to an MVC location closure must be rescheduled on the website. Customers will get an email when their appointment has been canceled.

If a customer can't make an appointment, it should be canceled using the guidance in the MVC's confirmation email to open the appointment for others.

Check MVC Agency Status

Customers should log on to NJMVC.gov to check the status of locations, complete all available online transactions, schedule appointments, and learn more about MVC operations.
