"RVCC’s Workforce Development team is uniquely positioned to meet the evolving talent needs of the film and media industry," Mercurius said.
The special effects courses will cover foundational skills such as 'no makeup-makeup' and contouring.
More advanced techniques will also be explored, including building wounds, creating artificial aging, and applying bald caps. A recent demonstration by Beauty Professions Instructors Joyce Spangler and Alayna Cotton showcased the skills involved in creating realistic wounds.
RVCC Alumna and Instructor Alayna Cotton highlighted the program's practical experience.
"What sets RVCC apart is that you get professional development and real-world experience so early on in your career," Cotton said.
The college’s programs are supported by faculty and offerings like the Protégé Salon and Spa, which provides students with hands-on training.
Amy Layton, director of RVCC’s beauty professions program, emphasized the comprehensive training.
"We teach a blend of soft and hard skills, as well as help students create resumes and social media portfolios to achieve their goals," Layton said.
