BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A proposed self-storage facility in Bridgewater is moving forward with revised landscaping plans for the site between Route 22 and Route 28.
Bridgewater Storage LLC is proposing to replace Melick's farm stand and the long-vacant Tectonic building.
At the Tuesday Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting, the applicant's team outlined changes aimed at adding more screening along Route 28.
Matthew Kunsman, a senior project manager at Bohler, said the revisions focused on a corner of the property where there had been a gap in landscaping because of basin access.
"In the prior revision, ... that butts the Route 28 corner of the building, there was a gap in the landscaping due to basin access location. We have since revised the basin access to be on the north side of the property towards the Route 22 side and not towards the Route 28 side," said Kunsman.
As a result, Kunsman said they "were able to add six additional evergreen trees in that corner to provide more of a buffer and fill in that gap along the Route 28 frontage."
During the hearing, attorney Matthew Capizzi asked whether the change would address a buffer the board had discussed in January.
"Yes, I do," Kunsman said.
Kunsman also said some trees were shifted closer to Route 28 to improve screening for nearby residents.
"We were able to reposition some of the trees to really push trees towards Route 28 to provide more screen towards the residents south near Bogart as well. And then we were able to add six additional trees beyond what we previously had," he said.
The application was then carried to July 14 at 7 p.m. The public is expected to be able to comment on the entire project before the Board renders a final vote.
The Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment are held in person at the Bridgewater Township Municipal Building at 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, and streamed live on the Bridgewater Township YouTube channel, which can be viewed by clicking on the video stream labeled “Bridgewater Zoning Board” at @BridgewaterNewJersey.
