Conquering Cancer at Zoned Sports Academy

On February 18, 2013, local business owner Malcolm “Duke” Baxter hosted a St. Baldrick’s baseball clinic at Zoned, Inc., a premiere baseball training academy in Bridgewater, New Jersey.  Duke approached Michael Schwartz, the Lead Organizer of the B-R Conquer Kids’ Cancer Event, offering to host a clinic for kids ages 8 -11 at Zoned with a portion of the proceeds of the clinic to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.   The clinic was a tremendous success with dozens of young aspiring baseball players attending – many of whom are going to have their heads shaved at the B-R Conquer Kids’ Cancer Event which is being held on March 15, 2013.

At the clinic, the professional trainers at Zoned worked with the kids on hitting, throwing, fielding ground balls and catching fly balls.   The kids played homerun derby as well as a friendly pickup game. There were smiles on the faces of these young baseball and softball ballplayers throughout the clinic.

At the conclusion of the clinic, each child was given a St. Baldrick’s bracelet as a keepsake and to show their support for kids who are battling cancer.  As shown in the photograph, Duke presented a check to Michael for $500.00.  Shown on either side of Duke are Tyler S. and Drew H., both of whom will be having their heads shaved for their third year in a row.  Duke plans on hosting several more clinics during the course of the year to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. .
