Attorney Accused Of Seeking Sexual Favors Found Dead

Richard Schubach was found dead in his car Tuesday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

Raritan, NJ -- A Raritan attorney who was accused of seeking sexual favors for reduced legal fees was found dead Tuesday morning in an apparent suicide, authorities said. Reports of his arrest were made public on Monday.

Richard P. Schubach, 58, of Pine Hill Road, Stockton was found dead in his car around 7:30 a.m., police said.

Schubach was arrested for allegedly offering female clients a reduced price for his legal fees in exchange for sexual favors. He was also reported to have fondled and violated an undercover officer, police said.

Schubach, who was thought to have been at his law office on Route 202, was found in his car with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

When officers from the Raritan Borough Police Department located him in the car outside an office complex adjacent to his office, he was unresponsive with a wound to his chest, police said. Officers were following up on a welfare request.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and Schubach was pronounced dead at 8:05 a.m. by EMTs from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.

Schubach was transported to the New Jersey Northern Medical Examiner’s Office, where a post mortem examination will be conducted.

Schubach had been charged with three counts of Criminal Sexual Contact, fourth degree.
