Bicyclist Hit By Car, Hospitalized In Somerville
The 65-year-old bicyclist disregarded a red traffic light before entering the intersection and riding into the path of the car, police said.
SOMERVILLE, NJ — A bicyclist is hospitalized and expected to survive after he was hit by a car in Somerville on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
At around 10:40 a.m., a 65-year-old Somerville man was riding a bicycle southbound on North Bridge Street when he disregarded a red traffic light and entered the intersection at WestHigh Street, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Somerville Chief of Police Dennis Manning.
The bicyclist ended up riding into the path of a 2019 Honda CRV driven by a 75-year-old Somerville man, who had a green light, said Robertson.

A Somerville Police Officer, who saw the crash, helped to care for the bicyclist before he was taken to an area trauma center for head trauma. The bicyclist is expected to survive, said Robertson.
Investigators from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) along with Somerville Police detectives are investigating. The driver of the car remained at the scene and was not injured.
