Blue Crabs Outlast Patriots In Ten Innings

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (6-7, 32-44) defeated the Somerset Patriots (12-3, 47-31) 3-2 in ten innings.

Bridgewater, NJ- The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (6-7, 32-44) defeated the Somerset Patriots (12-3, 47-31) 3-2 in ten innings in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Crabs took the lead in the top of the tenth inning on an RBI single by Teodoro Martinez for the 3-2 final.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Patriots rallied to tie up the game on RBI singles by Alfonso Reda and Nate Coronado. Reda’s RBI was the first of his professional career.

“Alfredo Rodriguez told me don’t try to go too big, to just go with the pitch,” said Reda. “It’s something I wanted to do. I wanted to get on base somehow to give us that chance to win.”

Southern Maryland got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Jon Griffin (12).

The Blue Crabs added a run in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Cory Vaughn for a 2-0 advantage.

Shane Watson (4-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Nate Roe (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits in an inning pitched. Jason Creasy earned his first save of the season with a scoreless tenth inning pitched.

Recently Patriots starter Stephen Perakslis allowed a run on two hits in four innings in his debut.
