Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (22-36, 59-68) salvaged the final game of the four game wrap around series by beating the Somerset Patriots (38-19, 84-43) 6-5 in 11 innings Monday afternoon from Regency Furniture Stadium. Blue Crabs right fielder Sean Smith was the star as he hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and walk-off homer in the 11th inning to propel the Crabs to victory.
In the bottom of the first inning Smith spanked a home run (10) to left field as the Blue Crabs took an early 1-0 advantage.

First baseman Jose Salas blooped a RBI single in the bottom of the third inning as Southern Maryland expanded its lead to 2-0.

The Patriots cut the deficit in half making the score 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning as first baseman Yunesky Sanchez recorded a RBI groundout.
Somerset evened the contest at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning as catcher James Skelton tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.
Catcher Alvin Colina broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning as he socked a two run home run (10) to left field as the Blue Crabs led 4-2.
In the top of the seventh inning pitcher Tim Redding threw a wild pitch that plated third baseman Corey Smith as Somerset cut the deficit in half making the score 4-3.
Yunesky Sanchez clubbed a go ahead two run home run (6) to deep left field that catapulted the Patriots in front 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning.
Southern Maryland tied the game at 5-5 in the ensuing half inning as shortstop Renny Osuna hit a RBI sacrifice fly.
Smith’s game winning blast (11) snapped Southern Maryland’s seven game losing streak and ended the Patriots six game winning streak.
Joe Gannon (1-1) earned the win in relief. Jason Lowey (7-4) suffered the loss in relief.
