Bluefish Hold Off Patriots With 5-3 Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

 

The Bluefish took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a home run by Alexis Gomez (10).

The Patriots answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Jorge Cortes.

Bridgeport regained the lead with a run in the fourth inning on Gomez’s second home run of the game (11).

 

In the fifth inning, the Bluefish added another run on a solo blast by Juan Martinez (4) that made the score 4-2.

 

An RBI single by Martinez in the seventh tacked on one more for the Bluefish for the 5-2 advantage.

 

An RBI double by Yunesky Sanchez in the bottom half of the seventh brought home a run and cut the lead to 5-3 for the Patriots.

 

Bridgeport starter Mike Parisi (7-16) got the win after allowing three runs in 6.2 innings pitched.  Somerset starter Erik Arnesen (13-4) suffered the loss, allowing five runs in seven innings while striking out six.  Winston Abreu came on to pitch the ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season.
