BREAKING: Students Help Stop School Bus Careening Down Rt. 22
A student pulled the emergency brake. Another took the keys out of the ignition after the driver suffered a medical emergency, police said.

Bridgewater, NJ -- Students helped stop a school bus that was careening out of control on Route 22 this morning on its way to the Somerset County Vocational and Technical School, police said.
According to police, the driver of the school bus suffered a medical emergency while driving students on Route 22 West from North Plainfield to Votech located on North Bridge Street in Bridgewater Township on Feb. 10 at around 7:35 a.m.
This caused him to miss the North Bridge Street exit.

When students questioned the driver, he didn’t respond and continued to drive in an erratic manner, Bridgewater Township police report.
“A 15 year old male student approached the driver and was able to talk him into applying the brakes, at which time this student put the vehicle in park and pulled the emergency brake,” Bridgewater Police Lt. Michael Maxwell said. “A 19 year old male student turned off the vehicle’s engine and removed the keys.”

Bridgewater Township police officers arrived on the scene and the bus driverwas in stable condition as he was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Somerset for treatment.
All the students were unharmed.
