Martinsville firefighters along with other neighboring fire departments were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire within 45 minutes. However, Rose said a portion of the fire continued to burn for several hours due to the gas from the main being unable to be shut off initially.
Luckily, smoke detectors went off and the homeowner was able to get everyone out of the house, said Rose.
Everyone escaped the home with no injuries, said Bridgewater Police Captain John Mitzak.
The home is uninhabitable and the residents are staying with family, said Mitzak.
Additionally, the family also lost a car that was damaged in the fire.
