'Fighting For His Life': Fundraiser For Bridgewater Motorcyclist In Route 22 Crash

A GoFundMe has been set up for 23-year-old Roberto Chavez-Rivas, who underwent a 6-hour emergency brain surgery after the crash.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A fundraiser has been set up for a 23-year-old Bridgewater motorcyclist who remains hospitalized in critical condition and is "fighting for his life" following a crash with a car on Route 22 in Hunterdon County.

On Thursday, May 1, at around 7 p.m., Roberto Chavez-Rivas was riding his motorcycle "when, in an instant, everything shattered," according to a GoFundMe fundraising website set up for Chavez-Rivas.

"A car suddenly pulled out in front of him, launching him 50 feet from his bike," according to the GoFundMe.

Chaves-Rivas was taken by helicopter to the Morristown Medical Center, where he underwent a 6-hour emergency brain surgery.

"Roberto isn’t just another name. He’s a son, a brother, a partner, a cousin, uncle, and a loyal friend. He’s someone who’s always put others before himself, showing up with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. His energy lights up a room. His heart is pure," according to the GoFundMe. "Now, he needs us."

The GoFundMe was set up to help cover the overwhelming financial burdens, including intensive medical care, emergency transport, long-term needs, and time away from work.

More than $47,000 has been raised of the $55,000 goal.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.
