"We are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases that appear, at least to some degree, to be associated with parties/gatherings and sports activities. We are also seeing cases in family clusters as well as cases coming from other, often unknown, sources and environments, such as long term care and schools," Bridgewater Health Officer Kevin Sumner previously said.

Sumner noted that the township has received many calls about people not abiding by quarantines, especially as they relate to schools.

As the holiday approaches, Sumner shared precautions for residents to take.

"The key messages are the same, but due to the rise in cases are more important than ever," said Sumner.

  • Maintain physical distance
  • Wear a face covering
  • Wash your hands
  • Avoid gatherings and parties
  • Follow the directions of health professionals, especially if advised to isolate or quarantine
  • Even if you do not feel sick that does not mean you cannot give it to someone else if you have been exposed

The rise in cases is not isolated to Bridgewater alone as a spike is being reported across the state.

On Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy reduced the maximum number of people who can gather outside in New Jersey from 150 to 25. Murphy warned that several of the state's key metrics have gotten "way too high." Read More: NJ: Outdoor Gatherings Drop To 25 As COVID Metrics 'Way Too High'
