My son has required IEP throughout his academic career. Bridgewater High School was amazing in helping him bring forward the best version of his abilities. From 5 years old on, he believed he wanted to be a chef and enrolled in a Culinary Arts program to start that journey.

He was lost... He hid it behind a smiling face... He fell into a deep depression. His first year, he flunked every single class but one. He was devastated as he was trying his hardest but getting no results.

This year, he started again at a new school with a clean slate. He just made Dean's List... This is by his own determination and grit, and I think it is important to highlight this achievement as I know he is not alone in this struggle. It is proof that you can turn it around.

It is easy to let failures define you, especially at such an impressionable age... Jack took a step back and a deep breath. He changed schools and his major from culinary arts to business finance, and he is knocking it out of the ballpark — Dean's List in his first semester.

I think kids need to know that failure is often a good thing... With this turnaround, he has taken that pride into other areas of his life... This failure in his first year of college made him rise in all areas of his life. And I think that is a message of encouragement that should reach the children of today. It is how we rise after we fall that is measured — not the fall.
