Cell Phones Not Allowed In Bridgewater-Raritan High School Classrooms
Students are required to place their phones in a "cell phone cubby" for the duration of each class, said Superintendent Robert Beers.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater-Raritan High School students will have to go without their cellphones while in class as phones must be placed in a "cell phone cubby" for the duration of each period, announced Superintendent Robert Beers.
"We know what damage that social media and etc. plays in a young person's life," said Beers at the Sept. 12 Board of Education meeting. "We can't combat that 100 percent but we can make sure that when a student is sitting in an English class that they don't have that type of influence or distraction."
Beers pointed to plenty of learning research that shows just having a cellphone in your vicinity is distracting.

"We are doing our best. It's a new era. But I think when we look at the wellness of kids - and really promoting academic achievement - it all starts with the phones," said Beers.
