Construction Begins On 2 New Playgrounds Coming To Bridgewater

Demolition of the current playgrounds began Wednesday. The new playground equipment at two parks will cost roughly $120,000.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Construction on two new playgrounds at two Bridgewater Township parks, which cost roughly $120,000, began on Wednesday.

"It was a BEAUTIFUL day for our amazing Public Works team to tear out old playground equipment at Alfred Brown and Harry Ally Parks. Thanks guys!" wrote Bridgewater Township Government in a Facebook post.

The new playground equipment is expected in late April.

"We are thrilled to install the new equipment in time for the beautiful weather for our youngest (and most energetic) residents," wrote Bridgewater Township Government.

The Township Council unanimously voted to approve two resolutions at the Nov. 10, 2022 meeting to award a contract to Ben Shaffer Recreation for Alfred Brown Park Playground equipment for $59,857.89 and Harry Ally Park Playground equipment for $60,303.86. Both playgrounds at Alfred Brown Park, in the Bradley Gardens section of town, and Harry Allen Park, in the Finderne section of town, have not been upgraded in about 30 years.

The life expectancy of the new playground equipment is 20 years and is maintenance-free. It also comes with a 10-year warranty, said Bridgewater's Public Works and Sewer Utility Superintendent Dicky Shimp.
