Deer Rescued From Icy Canal In Somerset County By Volunteer Firefighters, Police

Fire and police departments from South Bound Brook and Bound Brook collaborated to safely rescue the deer on Tuesday.

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, NJ — A deer that plunged through a frozen canal was rescued by firefighters and police in South Bound Brook on Tuesday.

At 4:15 p.m., the South Bound Brook Fire Department, Bound Brook Fire Department, and South Bound Brook Police Department were called to the Town Oaks Apartments at 159 Main St. for a deer that had fallen through ice on the canal.

Emergency responders tried to use a rope to lasso the deer. However, the deer's movements in the water complicated the rescue effort.

The marine unit was then used to pull the deer out of the icy water safely.

Following the successful rescue, all members cleared the scene and no injuries were reported.
