Driver On Phone Crashes Into Bridgewater School Bus

Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School students were on-board at the time of the crash on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A driver who was on her cellphone crashed into the back of a Bridgewater school bus with students on board on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

At around 3 p.m. a school bus transporting Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School students was stopped at the intersection of Somerset Street and Woodlawn Avenue when it was hit from behind by a 2018 Honda Civic, Bridgewater Police Lt. John Mitzak said.

The driver of the Civic was looking down at her phone following her GPS, Mitzak said.

A passenger in the Civic was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset as a precaution. The driver of the school bus was also transported to RWJ Somerset for minor injuries. There were no injuries to any of the students on the bus, Mitzak said.

The driver of the Civic was issued a motor vehicle summons for improper use of a hand-held device (cell phone).
