Off-Duty Firefighter Uses Garden Hose To Knock Down Apartment Fire In Bridgewater

The fire broke out on Sunday in the Finderne section of Bridgewater Township.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — An off-duty firefighter using a garden hose was able to extinguish a fire that broke out at an apartment building in the Finderne section of Bridgewater Township, according to Finderne Fire Department.

On Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2:10 p.m., Finderne Fire was called to the Finderne Heights apartment complex off Dartmouth Avenue for a fire reported on the second floor of a building, according to the volunteer fire department.

A smoke column could be seen coming from the building and Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Company and Somerset Fire & Rescue Co. No. 1 were asked to come and help.

Before the fire departments arrived, an off-duty firefighter knocked the fire down using a garden hose, according to Finderne Fire Department.

Firefighters worked for about 45 minutes to clear the scene.

There were no reported injuries and the fire is under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Fire Prevention Bureau, said Finderne Fire Chief Tom Marshall.

The department, which covers the southeast section of Bridgewater Township, is always looking for volunteers.

Volunteers are offered complete protective gear, free training, LOSAP (Length of Service Award Programs), a pay-per-call incentive, a life insurance/disability plan, and an in-house gym.
