COVID Vaccine Mega Site At Bridgewater Commons Evacuated: Video

Firefighters battled a smoke condition at the former Lord & Taylor building at the Bridgewater Commons mall Tuesday afternoon.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A portion of the Bridgewater Commons was evacuated, specifically the new COVID vaccine mega-site, on Tuesday afternoon. (see video below)

At 1:11 p.m. on Jan. 18, a fire alarm triggered calling in firefighters from all over Bridgewater, Liberty Corner, and Warren to the mall at 400 Commons Way.

Green Knoll Fire Captain Jim Driscoll said an HVAC blower on the third floor of the building began to smoke triggering the alarm.

As a result, the building was evacuated while firefighters worked inside and on top of the roof to correct the mechanical issue.

The issue was resolved around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

All Bridgewater fire departments are currently looking for volunteers. If interested reach out to the respective department.


The new COVID-19 vaccination mega-site opened in Somerset County at the former Lord& Taylor building on Dec. 15. The site is open to all ages and offers all vaccines Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment at rwjbh.org/bridgewater.
