Flash Flood Watch Issued For Somerset County Thursday, Friday

Showers producing moderate to heavy rainfall will develop Thursday afternoon and then will continue into early Friday morning: NWS.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Somerset County that will be in effect from Thursday afternoon until Friday at 6 a.m.

The watch was issued as showers producing moderate to heavy rainfall will develop Thursday afternoon and then will continue into early Friday morning with rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches and locally higher amounts, according to the NWS.

Flash flooding is expected on roadways and in areas of poor drainage. Minor flooding along small streams and creeks is possible as well, according to the NWS.

This Afternoon: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 78. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11 p.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 57. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: A chance of showers before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44.
