Flood Warning, Road Closures In Somerset County

Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are expected throughout the day on Friday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — More closures are being reported due to flooding in Somerset County. A flood watch remains in effect through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected," according to the National Weather Service.

As of 1:50 p.m., here are the latest closed roads and trails in Somerset County:

  • The bridge On Old York Road connecting Bridgewater and Branchburg has reopened.
  • S. Branch Road in Branchburg between Old York Road and Chubb Way has reopened.
  • South Middlebush Road between Bennetts Lane and Blackwells Mills in Franklin Township has reopened.
  • Blackpoint Road is closed between Amwell Road and the Branchburg border due to flooding.
  • The bridge on River Road at Riverside Drive into Branchburg is closed due to flooding.
  • Riverside Drive in Hillsborough is closed to traffic due to flooding.

Drivers are asked not to try to pass barricades.

  • Somerset County Park Commission also announced that the South Branch Greenway (Elm St.-Blackpoint) trails and Raritan River Greenway trails are closed due to flooding.

Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 62. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 55. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly before 3 p.m. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 77. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.
