Somerset County Parents Charged In Death Of 2-Year-Old Daughter

GREEN BROOK, NJ — Parents from Green Brook have been indicted on charges including endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death of their two-year-old daughter, said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Tracy Ruiz, 31, of Green Brook, is charged with second-degree aggravated assault and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. She was arrested at the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City on March 7.

Luis Larios, 35, of Green Brook, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Feb. 29.

Both were charged following the Hudson County Grand Jury's indictment on Feb. 21.

On July 7, 2022, the North Bergen Police Department was notified of an injured juvenile inside an apartment on Dane Court.

Officers found an unresponsive 2-year-old girl on the floor of a bedroom in the apartment, said Suarez.

She was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead on July 23, 2022.

During the investigation, it was determined the child sustained traumatic injuries.

Three additional children also lived in the apartment, which was in an unsanitary condition, said Suarez.
