Hammer-Wielding Man Smashes Restaurant's Window, Charged: Raritan Cops
Raritan Police said Scott Edge, 47, of Flemington, was found sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette while the restaurant was closed.
RARITAN, NJ — A Flemington man was charged after police say he used a hammer to smash a Raritan restaurant's window on Monday.
Scott Edge, 47, of Flemington, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, theft, and trespassing.
On Jan. 23 at 3:16 p.m., Raritan officers were called to Char Restaurant on Route 202, which was closed at the time, for a man sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette.

Two employees were at the restaurant but were unaware the man, later identified as Edge, was in the building, said Raritan Police.
Police went through the back entry door and found Edge at the bar holding a hammer, said police.

Edge was taken into custody after he relinquished possession of the hammer.
Officers learned that Edge had taken several delivery packages outside of the business, which he opened and placed in his vehicle. Edge then entered the business by smashing out the window of the front entrance door, said police.
Edge was then taken to police headquarters for processing and released pending a court appearance.
