Harmful Algal Bloom Closes Swimming At Round Valley

The main reservoir in Hunterdon County is still open for boating from the Fish & Wildlife Boat Launch.

LEBANON, NJ — Swimming is closed until further notice at Round Valley after a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) was confirmed in the swimming impoundment, announced New Jersey State Park Service Officials.

While swimming is off-limits, the main reservoir is still open for boating from the Fish & Wildlife Boat Launch. Swimming is never permitted in the main reservoir and only in the designated areas.

"Harmful algal blooms (HABs) occur when algae — simple photosynthetic organisms that live in the sea and freshwater — grow out of control while producing toxic or harmful effects on people, fish, shellfish, marine mammals, and birds," according to the National Ocean Service.
