Home, Car Burglaries Reported In Bridgewater

A surveillance camera captured a black man dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt, long pants and sneakers trying to get into a resident's car.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Multiple home and car burglaries were reported in Bridgewater by police.

Bridgewater Police Blotter:

On Oct. 28 at approximately 1 a.m.: Amarasena Rupasinghe, 57, of Metuchen was arrested for DWI following a motor vehicle crash which occurred in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Manor. After being processed for the arrest Rupasinghe was issued the following summonses: DWI, refusal to submit to chemical testing of his breath, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and failure to report a motor vehicle crash. He was processed and released with a pending court appearance.

On Oct. 30 at approximately 3 a.m.: A resident of Mayflower Court reported an attempted theft of his motor vehicle. The resident was alerted via a home surveillance camera, which captured a black man dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt, long pants and sneakers pulling on the door handle of his vehicle as it was parked in his driveway. The vehicle was locked and the suspect fled on foot from the area.

On Nov. 4 at approximately 10:40 p.m.: Officers responded to an activated burglar alarm at the Jiffy Lube located at 1316 US Highway 22 East. Officers discovered that the glass door to the business was shattered and an attempted burglary was discovered. There were no proceeds taken.

On Nov. 7: A resident of Loft Drive reported that a vehicle parked at their residence was burglarized
sometime in the overnight hours of Nov. 6. Unknown actor(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and stole
a pair of sunglasses.

On Nov. 7: Janilly Perez-Matos, 26, and Raymond Sierra, 21, both of Newark were arrested for shoplifting merchandise with a combined value of $1,199 from the Microsoft Store at the Bridgewater Commons Mall. Sierra was charged with shoplifting and was found to have an outstanding warrant from Secaucus. Perez-Matos was charged with shoplifting and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. They were both processed for the arrest, bail was posted for the warrant and both were released with a pending court appearance.

On Nov. 8: An employee of Bridgewater Chevrolet located at 1548 US Highway 22 East reported a theft. A 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 pickup truck owned by the business, had four tires with rims stolen from the vehicle.

On Nov. 10: Brandon Thomas, 36, of Piscataway was arrested for possession of a controlled
dangerous substance (CDS), after being stopped for a motor vehicle violation on US Highway Route 22
East. After being processed for the arrest, Thomas was issued the following motor vehicle summonses
and criminal complaints: unable to maintain traffic lane, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, driving
with a suspended driver’s license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. In
addition, he had an outstanding warrant from Avon-By-The-Sea. Thomas was released with a
pending court appearance.

On Nov. 11 at approximately 9:40 a.m.: A resident of 4th Avenue reported a burglary to their residence.
Unknown actor(s) entered the residence stealing cash.

On Nov. 11: A resident of Linden Street reported a theft. The rear license plate to her vehicle was stolen, while it was parked in front of her residence.
