Kitten Trapped In Storm Drain Rescued By Somerset Regional Animal Shelter

Animal Control Officers and Bridgewater DPW employees worked together overnight to rescue the kitten - now named "Stormy."

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — One tiny kitten has earned the name "Stormy" after Animal Control Officers from Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(SRAS) and DPW employees from Bridgewater worked overnight to rescue her from a storm drain.

Just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, a resident reported a kitten trapped in a storm drain on Sunny Slope Road in Bridgewater, said Police Lt. Frederick J. Brittain III.

Animal Control Officer(ACO) Jess Ostrowski headed out for what became a three-hour ordeal. Ostrowski ended up calling for help and ACO Karen Fisch and folks from DPW to help catch the kitten.

Around midnight they set traps.

"We figured the kitten would go into the trap. Instead, we came back in the morning to find her sitting on top of the trap screaming at the top of its lungs," said Ostrowski to Patch.

They then decided to put a net down the drain to cover the bottom with food on top. Once the kitten finally stepped into the net, Ostrowski quickly scooped her up.

Little girl Stormy is now safe and warm at Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.

"She is doing great today. Now that she is back in the shelter she is not dehydrated, her eyes are cleaned up and her vaccines were given," said Ostrowski.

The SRAS is asking residents to donate to support their life-saving efforts.

"We cannot do what we do without your support!" said Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.
