Kitty Trapped In Storm Drain Rescued By Bridgewater Firefighters
"A purrrty unique rescue" is how Finderne Firefighters described the tricky rescue on Monday night behind the Home Depot in Bridgewater.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — It was "a purrrty unique rescue" for volunteer firefighters who were able to rescue a trapped kitten who fell into a drain pipe on Monday night in Bridgewater.
At around 6:10 p.m., Somerset Regional Animal Control(SRAS), Bridgewater Township Police and Finderne Volunteer Firefighters were called to the Home Depot on Promenade Boulevard to help with a kitten stuck in a storm drain leading to a nearby sewer in the back part of the building.
Firefighters borrowed a sewer camera from Home Depot to see where the cat was.

"After a few 'Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty' with no luck, the crew rigged together carpet padding and lowered it into the pipe. To everyone’s surprise, the kitten latched on to the padding and was successfully rescued," said Finderne Fire Department.
The kitten was turned over to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.

"This was truly a tricky rescue with the kitten being trapped in such a confined space but with patience and persistence, he was saved from entrapment and brought back to the shelter to receive food and water and a safe place to live temporarily," said Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.
The shelter will be back to try and get a mother cat and other kittens in the area to rehome them.
"Please bare with us as we attempt to help these animals find better homes off the streets," said SRAS.
The department, which covers the southeast section of Bridgewater Township, is always looking for volunteers.
Volunteers are offered complete protective gear, free training, LOSAP (Length of Service Award Programs), a pay-per-call incentive, a life insurance/disability plan, and an in-house gym.
If interested in joining or have any questions, contact the department through their Facebook page facebook.com/FinderneFD.
