SOMERVILLE, NJ — Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville will once again allow visitors to see loved ones beginning on Tuesday following its suspension of visitations due to the coronavirus.

One visitor per patient per day will be allowed on adult inpatient acute care units from noon to 8 p.m. daily. No visitors will be allowed for patients who are diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19 or who are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

One visitor will be allowed for adult patients per visit in the Emergency Department. No visitors will be allowed in the Emergency Department for patients with flu-like symptoms.

All visitors must be at least 18 years of age.

The following visitor guidelines remain in place:

  • One significant other/support person is permitted in the Maternity and Labor & Delivery units.
  • Same-day surgery or procedure patients, except for pediatrics, and patients with an intellectual, developmental or other cognitive disability, may have one support person accompany them prior to and after the procedure.
  • Outpatients may be accompanied by one adult.
  • No visitors are allowed on the hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit or Eating Disorders Unit.
  • Pediatric patients in the Emergency Department may be accompanied by two parents or guardians.

There may be exceptions to the visitor policy made for patients with special needs and in end-of-life situations.

The hospital had previously restricted visitation in November 2020 due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the community.

The hospital also offers iPads for patients' use and staff will help facilitate virtual visits through voice and video apps such as Google Duo, FaceTime and Skype.

Anyone entering the hospital must undergo a screening, including a temperature check. Facemasks must be worn at all times while in the hospital.
