RWJ Hospital Somerset Restricts Visitors As COVID Cases Climb
Instead, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset will offer iPads for patients' use to virtually see loved ones.
SOMERVILLE, NJ — Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset is restricting visitors beginning on Tuesday due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the community.
Effective Tuesday, no visitors will be allowed in the hospital's Emergency Department or adult inpatient units.
Instead, the hospital at 110 Rehill Ave, Somerville, will offer iPads for patients' use and staff will help stream virtual visits through voice and video apps such as Google Duo, FaceTime and Skype.

The following visitor guidelines remain in place:
- One significant other/support person is permitted in the Maternity and Labor & Delivery units.
- Same-day surgery or procedure patients, except for pediatrics, and patients with an intellectual, developmental or other cognitive disability, may have one support person accompany them prior to and after the procedure.
- Outpatients may be accompanied by one adult.
Anyone who enters the hospital must undergo a screening, including a temperature check. Facemasks must be worn at all times while in the hospital.

As of Friday, Somerset County is reporting 81 new coronavirus cases since Thursday. Somerset County also has reported a total of 7,374 coronavirus cases, 526 deaths and 75 probable deaths since March.
Gov. Phil Murphy said on the Today Show Thursday that the second wave of the coronavirus "is without question upon us."
