NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A lockdown was placed on the North Plainfield Middle and High Schools on Thursday due to an accidental activation.

The lockdown was placed as a precautionary measure while police swept each classroom due to an accidental activation of the lockdown system, according to the North Plainfield School District.

"The lockdown mode was in place for about 45 minutes and was lifted as soon as we were given clearance by police," said the district.

All staff and students are safe and there was no threat.

"Please know we take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our staff and students is our top priority," said the district.
