Man Crashes Stolen Construction Vehicle, Injures 2 In Bridgewater: Police

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Somerville man was charged after authorities said he stole a construction vehicle, and sped off in a reckless manner before crashing in Bridgewater and injuring two people.

Amr A. Khodeer, 24, of Somerville, was charged with third-degree theft of a motor vehicle and served with numerous motor vehicle summonses, announced Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald on Wednesday.

On June 4 at around 2:15 p.m., Khodeer was seen in the area of Union Street in Somerville. A short time later, a construction vehicle, similar to a truck, was taken from Union Street.

The vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed and drove in a reckless manner, hitting two motor vehicles, and a structure in Bridgewater Township before becoming disabled within the area of the Promenade Boulevard in Bridgewater, said McDonald.

Khodeer then fled on foot and was apprehended by officers from the Bridgewater Township Police Department, said McDonald.

The driver of one of the vehicles hit by Khodeer was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained as a result of the motor vehicle accident. Khodeer was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Khodeer was arrested and charged following an investigation by detectives from the Bridgewater Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

Upon release from the hospital, Khodeer will be lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing in this matter.

McDonald thanked members of the Somerville Police Department for their assistance with this investigation which remains ongoing.
