Man Standing On Route 22 Median Threatens Cop, Resists Arrest: Branchburg Police

BRANCHBURG, NJ — A man standing on a Route 22 center median was arrested after police say he threatened an officer and resisted arrest, according to Branchburg Police.

On Wednesday, March 1, at around 3:31 p.m. while on patrol a Branchburg Township Police Officer saw a man standing in the grass center median of Route 22 near the intersection of Readington Road.

The officer approached the man who he identified as Keith J. Anderson, 57, of Whitehouse Station, who is known to panhandle in the area, said police.

While speaking with Anderson, the officer told him that a summons would be issued to Andreson for failing to cross the highway in a crosswalk since he was standing in the center median of the highway, according to police.

Anderson then began yelling, cursing, verbally threatening the officer, and then tried to walk away, said police.

Police say Anderson did not listen to the officer’s verbal commands and was told he was going to be placed under arrest. While trying to handcuff Anderson, he resisted the officers by failing to place his hands behind his back when instructed to do so, said police.

Anderson was charged with disorderly conduct a petty disorderly person offense, obstruction of justice a disorderly persons offense, resisting arrest a disorderly persons offense, and failure to cross in a crosswalk.

Anderson was taken to the Branchburg Police Department, processed, served with a copy of the complaints and released pending an appearance in Branchburg Municipal Court.
