BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A strip mall in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater was evacuated Monday following a gas leak.

A heavy odor of gas was reported at around 10:50 a.m. at the Martinsville Plaza at 1966 Washington Valley Rd. The Martinsville Fire Department found the leak was coming from a vacant store front.

"Other stores in the strip mall were evacuated until the scene was secured," said Bill Rose, with the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Co. "Not a lot going on anyway, given the COVID restrictions, several locations were not open, and several locations are vacant and available for rent."
