Two victims were located inside the home at 46 Central Avenue last night, police say

Raritan, NJ — A Raritan man was arrested early this morning in connection with a double homicide in the borough, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said.

Ramon Cadiz, also known as “Ray”, 51 was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder.

“It’s just very sad and a wake up call for me that you never know who is living right next door,” said a nearby neighbor who wished to remain anonymous for her safety.

Raritan police responded to 46 First Avenue, located on the corner of First Avenue and Second Street, on Friday, Dec. 11 around 3:15 p.m. on a report of concerns regarding the welfare of the occupants of the residence.

Officers located one homicide victim in the second floor master bedroom and cleared the scene until crime scene detectives arrived, according to Soriano.

First Street was barricaded most of the night during the investigation.

The second homicide victim was located on the first floor of the residence by Raritan Borough Police Department in conjunction with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics Unit.

Neighbors told Patch the victims were a woman and her 15-year-old daughter.

As a result of the investigation, police identified Cadiz as a suspect and issued a statewide police broadcast where the Federal Bureau of Investigation became involved.

Cadiz was located by North Brunswick Police sleeping in the front driver’s seat of his vehicle, which was parked in a dimly lit secluded area on Petunia Drive in Colony Oaks Apartment Complex in North Brunswick just before midnight, police reported.

After visual confirmation, detectives approached the vehicle and arrested Cadiz without incident around 4 a.m.

Cadiz was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set at $2,000,000.

“The cause and manner of the deaths, along with the positive identification of the victims will be determined following the post mortem examination to be conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office,” according to Soriano.

“To think about what a twisted individual he was,” the neighbor said of Cadiz. “I want to lock my kids up and never let them out the house. I’m so scared. I just want to move. Who would of thought, Raritan. Like, I grew up here.”
