The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, in commemoration of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 18–24, 2021, is decorating all police cars in the county with magnets to raise awareness about crime victims’ issues and rights and introduce the community to the important resources and services available. The magnets display this year’s theme- Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.
The faces of crime victims are those of our family, friends, neighbors, and community members. This year’s theme celebrates the contributions that we all can make toward building trust in our community’s capacity to support the healing journeys of crime victims. Trust is collective as well as individual, so we are honoring both the individual victims in our community and the groups engaged in building networks of understanding and support. Prosecutor Robertson stated, “the very reason why law enforcement exists is to serve and protect our communities and to bring justice to those who have been victims of crime. Now more than ever during this very challenging time of dealing with COVID, we need to be supportive of victims of crime, especially victims of domestic violence and abuse. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office has always and will continue to make the rights of victims one its top priorities and collaborate with the community to foster an environment where they can engage the members of this Office to build a safer community.” For additional information about this year’s NCVRW or how to obtain assistance, please contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Office of Victim Witness Advocacy at 908-575-3359 or visit the website at scpo.net.
