New Prosecutor Takes Charge In Somerset County

Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella​ had been leading the agency until Friday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A new prosecutor was sworn in to lead Somerset County on Friday.

Annmarie Taggart will take the helm at the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, SCPO Deputy Chief Frank Roman confirmed to Patch.

Taggart previously served as New Jersey OAG's Deputy Director of the Division of Criminal Justice since October 2019. She also previously served as Deputy Chief of Organized Crime since November 2017 and Deputy Attorney General.

Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella had been leading the agency since Michael Robertson resigned as of Jan. 28 to go to private practice with O’Toole Scrivo Law Firm.Robertson had taken over the office in 2016.

"At noon today Annmarie Taggart, Deputy Director of the Division of Criminal Justice within the Attorney General's Office, was sworn in as the Acting Somerset County Prosecutor. We thank Thomas Chirichella for his willingness to step in as Acting Prosecutor during a period of transition; he continues to be an essential part of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office," said OAG spokesman Steven Barnes.
