NJ's First Meadery Now Distributes in Somerset
Melovino won five awards in a mead competition and will be selling these meads locally in Somerset and Westfield
Union, NJ – The first and only meadery in New Jersey is now distributing locally.
Melovino, in the Vauxhall section of Union, will offer their award-winning mead at stores across the area including in Westfield and Somerset.
- The location in Somerset is Bottle Republic at 1760 Easton Ave - Phone (732) 469-0300.
“It’s exciting,” said Melovino owner Sergio Moutela to Patch. “For the first year and a half we were only selling in direct consumer sales and worked on educating people on what Mead is. Now we are branching out to put our mead on liquor store shelves and we are crossing our fingers and hoping it sells.”

Melovino doesn’t need much luck to sell their product.
Moutela just got back from the biggest mead competition in the world – the Mazer Cup International Mead Competition.

Having only been in business for a year and half, Melovino has already racked up quite a collection of medals. In 2015, Melovino won 3 medals and now has brought home 5 more medals in 2016.
The medals this year were awarded to five different meads – three are brand new.
Winning meads include:
- (New) BERRY BOKU - Our intensely rich and dense mixed berry mead that is sweet, tart, and full of flavor.
- (New) THE ROOT CAUSE - Fresh ginger mead made with orange blossom honey from Florida.
- (New) Old Dixy Moon - Orange blossom honey from florida aged in bourbon barrels.
- Teacher’s Pet – Apple Cider mead.
- Hot for Teacher – Jalapeno version of apple cider mead.
“More of our meads have won medals than not,” Moutela said. “Whenever people ask which meads won an award, it’s easier to say which haven’t but those that haven’t are some of our top 5 best sellers.”
Along with distributing to local stores, Melovino will continue to sell directly to customers through online sales.
