'Outraged' Activists Condemn Racist Fliers In Somerset County
Somerset County Democratic Committee and Council on American-Islamic Relations in NJ both blamed President Trump for the fliers.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Political officials are speaking out after white supremacy fliers were found in Bedminster, Bridgewater, Somerville and other nearby towns.
"The Somerset County Democratic Committee is outraged at the racist flyers posted in our County," the SCDC stated. "Although the flyer does not mention the President, it is his incendiary, divisive, racist statements that have given voice to these white supremacists."
The SCDC goes on to ask Republican elected officials "to do more than pass toothless resolutions and to take steps to stop this behavior. Our First Amendment does not protect hate speech."

The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) also condemned the distribution of the racist fliers.
“The promotion of a racist and white supremacist group should not be tolerated in our communities,” said James Sues, executive director of CAIR-NJ. “These fliers are a symptom of the spread of white supremacist ideology nationwide that has occurred under the Trump administration. While we condemn the distribution of these fliers, we also stand with the local residents who took action to reject Identity Evropa’s presence in our state.”

The Washington-based civil rights organization also pointed to an "unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president."

The fliers promoting "Identity Evropa" was initially found by a runner in Bedminster near the intersection of Route 202/206 and Burnt Mills Road on Saturday.
This group has been identified by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as a white supremacy group.
Others reported seeing fliers placed on cars at the Bridgewater Commons Mall, inside books at the Somerville Library, and more places throughout the county.
Police and the ADL were contacted about the fliers to have them removed. Residents are now coming together to find ways to stop this from continuing to occur in Somerset County.
