Camden, NJ- The Somerset Patriots set a new team record with 87 wins in a split against the Camden Riversharks on Saturday.
Game 2:
Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (41-22, 87-46) crushed the Camden Riversharks (27-36, 51-82) 14-3 Saturday evening in game two of the doubleheader from Campbell’s Field. With the victory the Patriots broke their single season wins record as they recorded their 87th overall win of the year. The previous record was 86 total victories accomplished by the 2009 squad.

In the top of the first inning first baseman Jeff Baisley launched a three run home run (9) to left-center field to give the Patriots an early 3-0 advantage.

Somerset added three more runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Second baseman Bobby Stevens slapped a RBI single. Center fielder Joe Holden roped a RBI triple and left fielder Aharon Eggleston tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.
The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning as catcher James Skelton ripped a RBI double and Stevens laced a RBI sacrifice fly as Somerset led comfortably 8-0.
Four more runs came across for Somerset in the top of the fourth inning as Baisley sliced a RBI single and Skelton socked a three RBI double as the lead increased to 12-0.
Camden got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning as third baseman D’Angelo Jimenez pounded a home run (3) to right field to make the score 12-1.
The Patriots plated two more runs in the top of the sixth inning as Stevens and Holden tallied RBI base knocks expanding the lead to 14-1.
In the bottom of the eighth inning shortstop Wilson Valdez hit a RBI single and Paul Phillips threw a wild pitch making the score 14-3.
Derell McCall (8-0) earned the win tossing seven brilliant innings allowing just one run on three hits. Jake Hale (3-6) suffered the loss lasting just 2.1 innings giving up eight earned runs.
Game 1:
Camden, NJ – The Camden Riversharks (27-35, 51-81) rallied to defeat the Somerset Patriots (40-22, 86-46) 3-2 Saturday afternoon in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader from Campbell’s Field. Second baseman Delwyn Young slugged a walk-off three run home run (13) in the bottom of the seventh inning to deep right field to propel the Sharks to victory.
In the top of the sixth inning first baseman Yunesky Sanchez socked a RBI sacrifice fly to center field and right fielder Jorge Cortes ripped a RBI single to give the Patriots a 2-0 advantage.
Camden scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. Somerset has now lost back-to-back games for the first time since July 19th and July 21st.
Zach Hammes (2-0) earned the win in relief. Jon Hunton (3-6) blew the save and suffered the loss.
