Patriots Top Bluefish 5-1

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.

 

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Cory Aldridge and an RBI groundout by Corey Smith.

Somerset extended the lead on a solo home run by Yunesky Sanchez (8) in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Bluefish got on the board in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Luis Lopez that made the score 3-1.

 

The Patriots answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back home runs by Bobby Stevens (7) and Angel Sanchez (1) for a 5-1 advantage.

 

Somerset starter Roy Merritt (4-2) picked up the win after striking out seven in six innings of work.  Bridgeport starter Hunter Jones (8-13) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on 13 hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

 

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
