Patriots Top Ducks 7-2

Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (31-17, 77-41) defeated the Long Island Ducks (24-24, 54-64) 7-2 Saturday evening from Bethpage Ballpark in front of a crowd of 6,119. All seven Patriots runs occurred with two outs and Somerset has now won five games in a row. 

Somerset plated six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-0 advantage. Shortstop Angel Sanchez blooped a two RBI single. Center fielder Jonny Tucker sliced a RBI single. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston smacked a two RBI single and an additional run scored on a throwing error by left fielder Ryan Strieby.

In the top of the fifth inning Angel Sanchez socked a RBI sacrifice fly to center field to expand Somerset’s lead to 7-0.

In the ensuing half inning third baseman Bryant Nelson ripped a two RBI double to put the Ducks on the scoreboard cutting the deficit to 7-2 which would end up being the final score.

Graham Taylor (8-5) earned the win as he hurled seven strong innings allowing just two unearned runs. James Houser (8-3) suffered the loss lasting only 3.2 innings while surrendering five runs.
