Pedestrian Killed After Car Crosses Double Yellow Line On Route 202 In Bedminster

A Flemington driver crossed over the roadway hitting William Richardson, 18, of Bedminster who was walking on a sidewalk, said police.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A pedestrian was killed after a Flemington man crossed over the double yellow line on Route 202 before hitting the 18-year-old walking on the sidewalk on Saturday night, said police.

On Sept. 23 at around 6:10 p.m., Bedminster Township Police Officers were called to a report of an automobile crash on Route 202 (Main Street) in the area of Elm Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver, a 35-year-old man from Flemington, was driving a 2017 Nissan Maxima westbound on Main Street.

The car left its lane, crossed the double yellow line, went off of the roadway, and hit a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk, said Bedminster Police Lt. Thomas Polito.

The pedestrian, William Richardson, 18, of Bedminster Township, died from his injuries at the scene and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerville where he was pronounced dead, said Polito.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing and is currently being investigated by the Bedminster Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crash Accident Reconstruction Team.
