Bomb Threat At Watchung Hills High School Prompts Police Search

An increased police presence will remain on the school campus in Warren on Thursday following the police activity.

WARREN, NJ — A bomb threat at Watchung Hills Regional High School prompted a police investigation on Wednesday night.

On the night of Nov. 15, Watchung Hills Regional High School(WHRHS) administration got an email about a potential threat indicating the presence of explosives within the school premises, scheduled to detonate at a later time, said Warren Police Chief William Keane and WHRHS Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Jewett.

Officers from the Warren Township Police Department came out to the school with explosive detection K-9 units from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, and the Edison Police Department.

Warren Police sent out an alert around 7:30 p.m. warning the public about the police activity at the school.

"A comprehensive search, both within the school and its vicinity, was diligently conducted, yielding no evidence supporting the threat. It is important to note that at no point were any students or staff at risk during this incident," said Keane and Jewett.

An investigation is continuing with the Warren Police Department and Watchung Hills Regional High School District along with local, county, state, and federal authorities.

"Our priority remains focused on holding those responsible for this alarming incident accountable through legal measures," said Keane and Jewett.

On Thursday, there will be an increased police presence on the school campus.

"The safety and well-being of the students and staff continue to be a priority of the Warren Twp. Police Department and Watchung Hills Regional High School administration," said Keane and Jewett. "Together, we are resolute in our commitment to maintaining a secure environment for all."
