Driver Crashes Into Occupied Home, Charged With DWI In Somerset County: Police

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A Raritan driver was arrested after she crashed into a home in Montgomery while driving under the influence last week, authorities said.

On Sept. 20 at 3:11 p.m., Montgomery Police, EMS, and Fire Companies 1 and 2 went to a home on Township Line Road for a car into a house.

The driver of a 2006 Nissan Altima, Tara Stankowitz, 49, of Raritan, failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of South Woods Road and Township Line Road, said Montgomery Police.

Stankowitz crossed over Township Line Road and onto the front yard of the home before crashing into the garage, said police.

No one inside the home was injured. Montgomery Township building inspectors went to the home to assess the structural damage.

A police investigation found that Stankowitz was driving under the influence, and arrested her for DWI. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at the stop sign, reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Stankowitz was treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset and remained in Police custody until her release following arrest processing. She is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Township Municipal Court.
