Raritan Sex Assailant Charged In 3rd Attack At NJ Park: Prosecutor

RARITAN, NJ — A Raritan man has been charged with a third sexual assault of a woman in the area of the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park on the border of Plainsboro and South Brunswick Townships, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced Wednesday.

Rogelio Calyeca Postrero, 38, was previously charged by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office(SCPO) on Aug. 5 for two violent sexual assaults in Bridgewater on July 18, 2021, and Franklin Township on May 16, 2022.

He was charged after a 911 call reported a Hispanic man, later identified as Postrero, masturbating on the Nevius Street Bridge on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 9:06 a.m. DNA tied him to both sexual assaults, said authorities. Read More: Raritan Man Charged In 2 Violent Sex Assaults At Somerset County Parks

After his arrest, authorities at the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and SCPO began working together to determine if Postrero was linked to the D&R Canal assault.

The most recent charge stems from a sexual assault of a woman near the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park on Sept. 28, 2021.

On Sept. 28, 2021, between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., a woman was walking on a path adjacent to the park when she was approached by a man armed with a knife, Ciccone said. After an extensive investigation by law enforcement, the man who attacked the woman was determined to be Postrero, Ciccone said.

For the D&R Canal sexual assault, Postrero has been charged with first-degree kidnapping, two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, first-degree robbery, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Postrero is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing on Friday.
