Rotary Club of Branchburg Putting Used Bikes to Good Use
Help our over burden landfills by donating old bikes
Pedals for Progress (P4P), in its continuing effort to recycle bicycles properly, is having a used bike collection sponsored by the Rotary Club of Branchburg. Anyone with an adult or child’s bicycle in repairable condition is urged to donate his or her bike to this worthy cause. Petals for Progress does not accept “bikes for parts” or disassembled bikes.
Bikes can be dropped off from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday Sept 21st, 2019, rain or shine @ Branchburg Municipal Building, 1077 Rt. 202 North, Branchburg, NJ 08876. This project is coordinated by Branchburg Rotarians Kip Bateman and Dan Matyola.
Every year, affluent Americans buy 18 million new bicycles and discard millions of old ones, abandoning many more unused in basements, sheds, and garages. Most of these end up in our already overburdened landfills. Meanwhile, poor people overseas need cheap, non-polluting transportation to get to jobs, markets, customers, and schools.

Pedals for Progress has received, processed and donated over 157,000 bicycles, 4,700 used sewing machines, and $10.8 million in new spare parts to partner charities in developing countries. Pedals for Progress isn't just donating used bicycles: It's also helping developing world economies by promoting self-sustaining bicycle repair businesses
Steady employment for these adults is vital to the development and success for these economies. It costs $40 to collect, process, ship, rebuild and distribute each bicycle. A $10 donation is suggested toward shipping costs per bike. All cash and material donations are fully deductible, and a receipt will be available at the collection site.
