Scammers Use Bridgewater Police Phone Number To Trick Residents

Bridgewater Police are warning residents that their non-emergency number has been used as part of a scam.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Residents are being warned about scammers using the Bridgewater Township Police's non-emergency number as part of a scam.

"We want to remind you, no legitimate government agency will ask or demand money for services, especially in the form of gift cards," wrote the police.

If you receive an unsolicited phone call from a person claiming to be a Bridgewater Police Officer asking for money or gift cards, get the caller's name and disconnect the phone call. Then, call the Bridgewater Police Department directly at 908-722-4111 to verify the call was legitimate.

"As a reminder, NEVER give personal information over the phone, by fax, through the mail, or on the Internet unless you have initiated the contact or you are sure you know who you are dealing with," said police.
