School Buses Catch Fire In Bridgewater

Finderne Volunteer Firefighters battled a multi-school bus fire on Tuesday night.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Multiple school buses caught fire on Tuesday night in the Finderne section of Bridgewater Township.

At 7:20 p.m., Finderne Fire Department and Finderne Rescue Squad went to Central Avenue for a report of a school bus on fire.

Bridgewater Police arrived first and said there was a working fire involving several buses and a power line down, said Deputy Fire Chief Tom Marshall.

Firefighters worked for about an hour to get the fire under control before turning the scene over to Somerset County Haz-Mat, said Marshall.

There were no reported injuries, said Marshall.

The Finderne Fire Department, which covers the southeast section of Bridgewater Township, responds to about 400 calls per year and currently operates three Engines, a Tower Ladder and a Heavy Rescue.

Volunteers are offered complete protective gear, free training, LOSAP (Length of Service Award Programs), a pay per call incentive, a life insurance/disability plan, and an in-house gym.
