Sinkhole Repairs To Continue For 2 Weeks On I-287 To I-78 Ramp In Somerset County

A new traffic pattern has been created at the ramp as reconstruction continues after a sinkhole appeared last year.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Reconstruction of the Interstate 287 North to Interstate 78 East ramp in Bedminster continues following a sinkhole that appeared in 2022.

As of Monday, July 31, a new traffic pattern has been established on the I-287 North exit ramp for Exit 21 - I-78 (Bedminster Township).

Two lanes are closed and a single-lane temporary ramp remains open.

"Motorists should be prepared for stopped traffic along the single lane opening on the temporary ramp until 3 p.m. on Aug. 14," according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation(NJDOT)'s 511NJ website.

The sinkhole first appeared in June 2022 causing the ramp to close for construction until July 26, 2022, when a temporary ramp was put in place. Read More: I-287 To I-78 Ramp Reopens After Sinkhole In Bedminster

"Since that time, NJDOT has been designing a permanent repair to the ramp, including drainage improvements, erosion control, and reconstruction of the roadway," said NJDOT Spokesman Steve Schapiro.
